The Supervisory Board of ERSTE Foundation appointed Boris Marte as CEO at its meeting on 27 September 2021. Marte, who takes on the position as of October 1, has been a member of ERSTE Foundation’s Management Board since 2016 and previously acted as its deputy CEO. Mario Catasta is stepping down from his current role as CEO of ERSTE Foundation for personal reasons; however, he will remain part of the Management Board as Deputy CEO.
The Chairman of the Supervisory Board, Andreas Treichl, comments the change: “Mario Catasta decided to step down from the CEO position at the ERSTE foundation for personal reasons. I respect his decision and thank Mario very much for everything he has done for Erste Group and ERSTE Foundation. I am glad that Mario is staying in our family by taking on the Deputy CEO role in the Foundation’s Management Board.”
Treichl explains the Supervisory Board’s decision to appoint Boris Marte as CEO, pointing out the important course that the non-profit private savings bank foundation has set itself for the future: “Boris Marte has helped to shape ERSTE Foundation from the very beginning and has provided it with strategic impulses, making it not only an important partner for civil society, but also an innovation center for social development, financial education and social banking.” As CEO, Marte’s main task at ERSTE Foundation lies in strengthening the impact of the Foundation and the positioning of Erste Group’s core shareholder.
Consequently, Marte is relinquishing his responsibilities as Head of the Erste Innovation Hub. In that role he had been responsible for the development of numerous innovation projects of Erste Group, such as the banking platform George, the Erste Financial Life Park (FLiP) and Erste Group’s #glaubandich identity communication. Bernd Spalt, CEO of Erste Group: “I would like to thank Boris Marte for his outstanding work. He is an influential architect of our Group’s development and a visionary mastermind. That’s why I am happy that we will continue working closely together in the future.”
As of October 1, the Management Board of ERSTE Foundation will consist of four members: Boris Marte (CEO) and Mario Catasta (Deputy CEO), as well as non-executive members Eva Höltl (since 2020) and Franz Portisch (since 2016).
