The exhibition Leeching States presents the artistic research work of MQ Artist-in-Residence Šimon Chovan, which is based on the extraction and recycling of the light metal lithium, one of the most important elements for the production of electric vehicle batteries. For the works on display in the MQ Pop-up Showroom, Chovan uses sand and mineral mixtures from test areas of the future lithium mining site in Cínovec in the Czech Republic, as well as residues from recycled car batteries. The visual artist thus visualizes the connections between material and technology, but also the associated questionable resource extraction.
