ERSTE Foundation intends to contribute to mutual understanding and the consolidation of European values within Central and South Eastern Europe. We place particular emphasis on young people. Therefore we support innovative ways of teaching and learning. Our projects offer opportunities to teach issues that are sometimes not part of the official curriculum. The close cooperation with NGOs, researchers, universities, schools and education ministries integrate different perspectives and assure the sustainability of the programmes. Another aspect is the support of people which find themselves in difficult social and economic circumstances in seizing educational opportunities and to develop the awareness that education is the most effective way to escape poverty.
