This catalogue was published on the occasion of the Joint Exhibition and Symposium of the Young Visual Artists Awards Network at the Slovak National Gallery (October 2011 – February 2012).
The Young Visual Artists Awards program (YVAA) as a major international fellowship award program for young visual artists in ten countries of Central and Southeastern Europe with a residency program in the US was established with President Václav Havel and a group of artists in Czechoslovakia in 1990.
On 2-3 October 2011, Bratislava hosted a two-day symposium and exhibition, which brought together artists and art professionals from the YVAA network in the Czech Republic, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Croatia, Kosovo, Macedonia, Albania, Bulgaria, Serbia, Slovenia and the Slovak Republic.
The fourth of its kind (the others were in Prague 2005, Pristina 2007 and Belgrade 2008), this symposium built on the 20-year history of YVAA with the aim to strengthen relationships and cooperation between different representatives of the art world within the region, Europe and the US.
The publication produced on the occasion of the joint exhibition and symposium includes the biographies and works of the winners.
The whole event was organised by the Foundation for a Civil Society (New York) and Foundation-Center for Contemporary Art & Slovak National Gallery (Bratislava) with the support of ERSTE Foundation as a main partner.
