Speech 1: Péter Nádas
Péter Nádas, born on 14 October 1942 in Budapest, is a Hungarian novelist. Nádas initially studied chemistry before starting a career in photography and photo journalism. He has been a freelance writer since 1965, when one of his narratives was published in a magazine. Most of his books deal with the situation in Communist Hungary. His century-spanning novel “A Book of Memories” elevated him into the select circle of epic novelists such as Marcel Proust and Robert Musil. Other works include the collection of essays “Homecoming” (1999) and the works of prose “Own Death” (2002) and “Securing Evidence” (2007). His three-volume novel “Parallel Stories”, published in Budapest in 2005, is currently being translated into German. Nádas lives in Gombosszeg and Budapest.
