Gender Check – Narratives and Exhibition Practises, 19-20 November 2010, MUMOK
The symposium “Gender Check – Narratives and Exhibition Practices” will take stock of the research and exhibition project “Gender Check – Femininity and Masculinity in the Art of Eastern Europe” which was initiated by ERSTE Foundation and on show at MUMOK in Vienna and at Zachęta National Gallery of Art in Warsaw. Topics on the agenda will be the experiences and outcomes of the research project Gender Check, as well as the reception the exhibition received from the public and the media. To this end, exhibitions of a similar nature at international level will be examined in order to compare the various curatorial approaches and their implementation, as well as the exhibitions’ impact on the public. The objective is to develop new perspectives for Gender studies in the field of art.
The symposium is part of the research and exhibition project Gender Check. The exhibition “Gender Check: Femininity and Masculinity in the Art of Eastern Europe” was shown at MUMOK, Museum Moderner Kunst Stiftung Ludwig, Vienna (November 13, 2009 – February 14, 2010) and Zachęta National Gallery of Art, Warsaw (March 19 – June 13, 2010). The Gender Check project was initiated and supported by ERSTE Foundation and realized in collaboration with the Museum Moderner Kunst Stiftung Ludwig, Vienna.
