Social media is shaping opinions, for better and for worse. Those interested in abusing this medium are mobilising support by promoting “realities” that are as fake as they are effective. They are tailor-made, based on private information “stolen” from citizens and interfere with political processes at home and abroad. Péter Krekó of the Hungarian think-tank Political Capital believes that in order to restore citizen trust in democratic institutions we need to step out of the world of social media and reengage with classic communication.
