Romanian project wins ERSTE Foundation Award for Social Integration 2013
On 27 June, the winners of the ERSTE Foundation Award for Social Integration 2013 were announced: 35 organisations that are passionately dedicating their efforts to the integration of marginalised people in 13 Central and Eastern European countries (Austria, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Croatia, Czech Republic, Hungary, Kosovo, Macedonia, Moldova, Montenegro, Romania, Serbia, Slovak Republic and Slovenia) were awarded at a Ceremony that took place in Vienna’s MuseumsQuartier, in front of over 700 representatives of the civil society, business and media organisations from Austria and CEE.
“We started this Award six years ago, with the strong wish to publicly honour the great organisations that are fighting for the social integration of those marginalised in CEE. Despite their achievements and dedication, the situation of many NGOs is still precarious, especially in the social sector: the economic crisis and overstrained government and public administration structures contribute to a situation in which many civil society actors work and live in a climate of constant uncertainty. We want to congratulate NGOs and the people working with them for their achievements, and to make their results and the important role they play visible for the large public, because in times of transition, we all need positive signs of human engagement that help us believe that we can make it, that each of us can contribute, that we live in a place worth living”, says Doraja Eberle, Chairwoman of the Board of ERSTE Foundation.
All winners (30 prize winners, 4 winners of the Special Prizes of the Jury and 1 winner of the Practitioners’ Award) received prizes totalling €616,000, as well as PR counselling on a two-year period (2013-2015) from experts who will do their best to put these organisations in the spotlight in their home countries. Additionally, all finalists will be enrolled in the ERSTE Foundation NGO Academy, and, thus, will take part in a series of trainings and workshops meant to increase their capacities during the next two years.
The outstanding winning projects were selected by an international jury out of 136 finalists ranked by local experts in social integration from almost 2,000 submitted applications.
