Georg Winckler became a member of ERSTE Foundation’s Supervisory Board in 2008 and has chaired this Board since 2011. He studied economics at Princeton University/USA and University of Vienna. He was Professor of Economics at the University of Vienna from 1978 to 2011, acting there as Rector from 1999 to 2011. He held various visiting professorships, among them at Georgetown University/USA (1995), and worked as Visiting Scholar in the Research Department of the International Monetary Fund (1990/91). From 2000 to 2005 he chaired the Austrian Rectors’ Conference (today: uniko) and from 2005 to 2009 the European University Association. From 2004 to 2012 he served as member of the European Research Area Board of the European Commission. Since 2009 he has been a member of the Board of Trustees of the Educational Testing Service (ETS) at Princeton/USA, and since 2013 a member of the University Board of the University of Vienna. He is vice-chairman of the Supervisory Board of Erste Bank Österreich.
