In 2001, asylkoordination österreich started “connecting people”, a project that provides underage refugees with helpful mentors from Austria. Since then, a great number of the thousands of unaccompanied young people running from war, violence and destitution in their own countries have found friends, supporters and even a second family in their mentors.
To honour the success of the project and celebrate ten years “connecting people”, a book was published this year, depicting literary portraits of mentors and their mentees, written by distinguished writers and journalists such as Marlene Streeruwitz, Julya Rabinowich, and Teresa Arrieta with photos by Michaela Bruckmüller. The publication will be presented on 6 December with readings by featured authors Lydia Mischkulnig, Vladimir Vertlib and Renate Welsh-Rabady, accompanied by music performances.
