Tracing down a forgotten conflict: Sebastian Wedl is the "Reporter’12-Ost"
In cooperation with ERSTE Foundation, the initiative Reporter’12-Ost of the Austrian daily “Die Presse” is supporting young people with journalistic ambitions and giving them the chance to investigate on interesting stories from Southeastern Europe with the support of professional journalists.
This year’s winner, 25-year-old Sebastian Wedl, was selected in December 2011 by an expert jury after an online voting and a hearing. Sebastian Wedl, who is studying journalism in Vienna, won for his idea on a report entitled “Tracing down a forgotten conflict: Macedonian sons and daughters on their escape to Western Europe”. More than ten years ago, Albanian rebels fought against the Macedonian army in Macedonia. This conflict was disregarded by both the media and historians. Accompanied by foreign affairs editor Wieland Schneider from “Die Presse”, Sebastian Wedl will travel to Macedonia in April 2012 and investigate on this topic on a two-week research trip. His stories will be published in the newspaper as well as on the website of “Die Presse”.
