Grenzgänger/Grenzdenker: “The New Patriots”

Martin Pollack in conversation with Olga Tokarczuk and Kateryna Mishchenko

On 9 November the regular series of debates “Grenzgänger/Grenzdenker” curated by the renowned Austrian historian, translator and author Martin Pollack continues. The November-debate with the title “The New Patriots” will take place at 8.00 pm at the Kasino am Schwarzenbergplatz in Vienna. Grenzgänger/Grenzdenker (cross-border travellers/thinkers) examines the growing sense of crisis and insecurity in Europe.

The two guests, authors Olga Tokarczuk (Poland) and Kateryna Mishchenko (Ukraine), will deal with the question whether Europa is ready to meet today’s challenges: To go beyond the wall many of us have erected in our minds and to counter the fact that “new patriots” on the rise want to defend the “Christian West” against foreign influences. The two authors will also speak about their own geographical and cultural perspective on these issues. Furthermore, actors Sabine Haupt and Dietmar König will read texts written by the two authors.
