The Best of the East: A theater festival on Moldova
Since 2009, two independent groups succeed in a theatrical landscape, that follows a rigid structure, allows little room for theater experiments and has so far not established an independent scene– the Moldovian one. On Monday, when all other – 100% state owned – theaters in Moldova are closed, the audience is lured to politically sensitive and controversial performances to the theater. Now, in collaboration with the Federal Ministry for European and International Affairs, the Embassy of the Republic of Moldova in Austria and ERSTE Foundation, Volkstheater presents the two latest productions of the indepent groups in Vienna.
“Foosbook” is presenting the documentary project “CASA M” that picks up the taboo topic of domestic violence.
The artist collective “Teatru Spalatorie” presents “ROGVAIV”, an award winning documentary performance by the Romanian artist and political activist Bogdan Georgescu on the intolerance expressed publicly, openly,
without any control or responsibility, shamelessly by the political leaders and public figures of the Republic of Moldova in 2011. ROGVAIV was produced with the support of ERSTE Foundation. For more information, click here.
The two festival evenings will be topped off by a reading, a performance by Ion Bors, DJ-Lines and parties.
Dates: 22 and 23 February 2013, 7 p.m.
Location: Hundsturm, Margaretenstraße 166, 1050 Vienna
