International conference:
The collapse of neoliberalism and the idea of socialism today

Kino Europa, Zagreb, Croatia

The 3rd Subversive Film Festival is no ordinary, competition film festival. It is a joint project of various disciplines and media: film, visual arts and critical theory, aiming to explore and understand recent cultural history.

This year the festival is also specifically themed, addressing key historical processes or turning points and subsequent politically, economically and socially relevant issues. It intends to assess the meaning of Socialism, marking the 20th anniversary of the fall of Communism in Central and Eastern Europe and the 65th anniversary of the victory over fascism.

These topics will be discussed in an international conference with Slavoj Žižek as its art director and participants like Zygmunt Bauman, Samir Amin, Michael Lebowitz, Michail Ryklin and Boris Buden. Noam Chomsky, Michael Hardt and others will participate via video-links. The conference supports and will be supported by the film programme that includes over 100 films, among which a grand retrospective of ex-Yugoslav cinema and a selection of Eastern European modernist cinema of the 60s and 70s.
