Romanian choreographer Manuel Pelmus awarded “Berlin Art Prize 2012”

Romanian choreographer Manuel Pelmus receives “Berlin Art Prize 2012 – Performing Arts” offered by the Academy of Arts Berlin and the City of Berlin.

The Berlin Art Prize was founded in 1948 by the State of Berlin to commemorate those who died in the social unrest in March 1848, and is awarded by the Academy of Arts Berlin on behalf of the State of Berlin.
The Berlin Art Prize is a distinction for artistic achievements and serves to promote artists’ work. The awards are presented on 18 March 2012 in the presence of the Mayor of Berlin, Klaus Wowereit.

Manuel Pelmus is one of the most well-known representatives of Romanian dance in the international context. His latest works have been presented in festivals and theatres throughout Europe and the United States.

In 2007 the solo Preview was nominated in Ballettanz International as “most important production of the season”. In 2011 Manuel founded Caminul Cultural together with Farid Fairuz and Brynjar Bandlien, a project supported by ERSTE Foundation.
