Invitation to a public event celebrating the opening of the Mahnmal Turnertempel (Turner temple memorial) on 9 November 2011, 7 pm
Brick 5, Herklotzgasse 21, 1150 Vienna
A week of events from 7- 11 November in and around Herklotzgasse 21
The original Turnertempel (Turner temple) was built in 1871-72 as Vienna’s third synagogue in Turnergasse 22 (hence the name of the temple) and subsequently destroyed in the Kristallnacht on 9 November 1938. Due to an initiative of coobra, an association which deals with Jewish life and the consequences of the Holocaust in Vienna’s 15th district, a memorial has been built on the site of the Turnertempel — the Mahnmal Turnertempel (Turner temple memorial).
The opening of the memorial will be celebrated with a series of events from 7-11 November 2011 in and around Herklotzgasse 21. On 9 November, ERSTE Foundation invites to a festive reception. Witnesses of the time, who come from Israel and Austria, will be present, Michal Hvorecký — Slovak writer and member of the ERSTE Foundation Community — , will give a lecture, and the public is invited to come and commemorate with us. Admission to this event is free and ERSTE Foundation warmly invites you to the reception. To help us with the organisation, please confirm your attendance either by writing to firstname.lastname@example.org or by calling +43 (0) 699 119.03.113.
