"Overknit Your Pension" wins The Social Business Idea Contest 2010

Overknit Your Pension is the name of Barbora Kuckova and Olga Guttenova’s idea for a social business that aims at fighting poverty and social exclusion of elderly women. It was selected as the overall winner of The Social Business Idea Contest 2010.

The business idea is to offer design and knitting technique workshops to elderly women so that they can produce knitwear—sweaters, hats, scarves, etc.—of the latest fashion standards. The knitwear would then be marketed online under a new “grandma’s” brand. The popularity of the label could be enhanced through partnerships with fashion designers so that “grandma’s” knitwear could eventually become “must have” pieces.

As winners of The Social Business Idea Contest, Barbora Kuckova and Olga Guttenova will receive comprehensive assistance in realising their project idea, including expert advice and start-up financing for the new business.

The Social Business Idea Contest 2010 is an initiative in the framework of The Social Business Tour 2010. Full information on these initiatives is available at
