Jewish culture from Hungary in Vienna: Life March

Lebensmarsch Budapest (c) Israelitischen Kultusgemeinde Wien

The Jewish Cultural Weeks are organised by the Israelitischen Kultusgemeinde Wien (IKG) and have been taking place every June in Vienna for more than 20 years. This year’s program named “Jewish Culture from Hungary” shows different facets of Jewish culture in music, dance, art, literature, film and discussions.

One part of the comprehensive program will be the mentor program “Bring the Art Home”, which is organised by the IKG in cooperation with LOFFICE, a co-working office. It shall present works of nine young artists from Hungary, who in their artwork deal with the “Lebensmarsch” (Life March) movement. In the memory of the victims of the Holocaust, these marches take place every year worldwide and allude, unlike the death marches during the Second World War, to many varieties of Jewish culture and life nowadays.

The Award ceremony during which prizes will be given to three artists with the best concept, the opening of the exhibition, as well as the reading and discussion with Hungarian essayist and writer György Konrad are all set for 3 June in the framework of the Jewish Cultural Weeks in Vienna.

Jewish Cultural Weeks: 2-16 June
Exhibition opening: 3 June 2013, 7 pm
Location: LOFFICE Co-working, Schottenfeldgasse 85/1, 1070 Vienna
Moderation: Nóra Winkler, cultural journalist.
