Kosovo Liberation Army ran torture camps in Albania
The news broke on BBC on 9 April 2009. Eyewitnesses allege that the KLA maintained a network of prisons in their bases in Albania and Kosovo during and after the conflict of 1999. Only now are the details of what occurred there emerging.
One of the authors of the story is Altin Raxhimi, a Tirana-based freelance journalist and winner of the 2007 Balkan Fellowship for Journalistic Excellence, a fellowship initiated by ERSTE Foundation and Robert Bosch Stiftung, in cooperation with the Balkan Investigative Reporting Network, BIRN. A major part of the research for this story was funded by the Alumni fund for the Balkan Fellowship for Journalistic Excellence.
