Grenzgänger/Grenzdenker: “Return to Europe and back”

Martin Pollack in conversation with Adam Michnik.

On 29 March the regular series of debates “Grenzgänger/Grenzdenker” curated by the renowned Austrian historian, translator and author Martin Pollack continues. The March-debate with the title “Return to Europe and back” will take place at 8.00 pm at the Kasino am Schwarzenbergplatz in Vienna. Grenzgänger/Grenzdenker (cross-border travellers/thinkers) examines the growing sense of crisis and insecurity in Europe.

This time we made an exception and invited only one guest: Adam Michnik. The brilliant essayist is a great European, whose unerring judgment carries weight far beyond the borders of Poland. The former dissident and friend of Václav Havel is since many years the editor in chief of the leading daily newspaper Polands, Gazeta Wyborcza, which, with its pro-European orientation presents the most important counterweight to the nationalistic and Eurosceptic course of Jarosław Kaczyński. Equally important is Michniks role as observer of the political developments in Europe. He is among the harshest critics of Putin and is calling for a clear, unequivocal position of Europe towards him.
