Grantmakers East Forum 2014

Grantmakers East Forum 2014

The 19th Grantmakers East Forum (GEF), hosted from 8 to 10 October by Fondazione Sicilia and Fondazione con il Sud in Palermo,  will open the floor for discussions around the issues of migration and mobility. LEARNing, REFLECTing and CONNECTing is what the GEF is about! Its mission is to support the collaboration amongst grantmakers to promote development of civil society. By providing funders with a platform to discuss their grantmaking efforts the Forum helps participants to be inspired and encourages new donor activity. In order to design a rich content driven programme and drive common agendas, this year’s GEF Steering Committee will collaborate with some of the EFC’s thematic networks engaged in mobility and migration issues including the Forum for Roma Inclusion and the Diversity, Migration and Integration Thematic Network.

Panel Discussion: Should we stay or should we go?

On 9 October, Alina Serban from ERSTE Foundation will moderate the panel “Should we stay or should we go?”
This panel will take a closer look into mobility in Europe and ever more emerging double standards which, not only create a hierarchy within EU and non-EU nationals, but often threaten to violate basic human rights for mobility. The panellists and the participants will be asked to reflect on some of the problematic mobility issues: which are the groups most often singled out as subject to mobility in the recent period and why? What is the political legitimacy for emergence of the so-called “second rate” EU citizens relating to Romania and Bulgaria? A special focus will be put on Roma migration and mobility – how to better understand fluctuations of migration and analysing policies at national and local levels.

Moderator: Alina Serban, ERSTE Foundation
Neda Deneva, Centre for Liberal Strategies
Olena Fedyuk, University of Strathclyde
László Fosztó, Romanian Institute for Research on National Minorities
Ciprian Necula, Romano ButiQ
