Gala Concert at the European Jewish Choir Festival – Vienna 2013
The Vienna Jewish Choir plays a vital part in making Jewish culture an integral part of life in Vienna again. It will host the first European Jewish Choral Festival in Vienna with a comprehensive repertoire of Yiddish, Hebrew, and Ladino songs from 9 to 12 May.
During intensive workshops, around 400 singers will rehearse new songs together with the Vienna Jewish Choir. They will learn specifically about techniques of Jewish music under the guidance of renowned teachers, and will exchange views on their interpretations of Jewish music. The gala concert “Shir LaShalom – A Song for Peace” on 12 May in the Austria Center Vienna will be the highlight of the festival, when the Jewish choirs from all over Europe – e.g. Lviv (Varnitshkes Singers), Belgrade (Choir Baruch Brothers) and Bukarest (Shofar Vocal-Ensemble) – will perform the best pieces of their repertoires. The festival comes under the patronage of Austria’s Federal President, Heinz Fischer, as well as the European Jewish Parliament. The concert will be moderated by Danielle Spera, director of the Jewish Museum Vienna.
Date of the Gala concert: 12 May 2013, 6 pm
Location: Austria Center, Bruno-Kreisky-Platz 1, 1220 Vienna
