Bódvalenke has gained fame as the Fresco Village, where Roma artists from Hungary and also from other European countries paint murals on the walls of this very poor Roma village in the North of Hungary. So far, 21 murals have been completed with another three in the making; most of them are truly brilliant works. It has also been said that Bódvalenke itself has become a work of art, a masterpiece – a masterpiece of Roma painting.
The purpose of the Dragon Festival is to focus attention on the greatness of Roma art and culture: excellent Roma musicians are invited to improvise in front of the paintings in the afternoon of the first day (Saturday, 9 June 2012) and to give a great concert in the evening; there will be a Roma Poet’s Café; Storytelling corner for the children; opening of the Albert Hall of Bódvalenke (exhibition of contemporary artists in Albert’s house). As 2012 is the Year of the Dragon, Bódvalenke’s Dragon will welcome a real Chinese Dragon as well. Romani Design will present a fashion show of their beautiful, modern costumes inspired by traditional Roma patterns; kite-flying. Romani Design was among the finalist of the ERSTE Foundation Award for Social Integration 2011. www.romanidesign.hu/
