Delicate Instruments Handled With Care

Delicate Instruments Handled With Care is the title of a new performance by the Romanian choreographer and visual artist Alexandra Pirici. After projects such as the one-to-one performance Home 1./The Institute of Empathic Practice, she continues her research into empathic practices at the performance festival “imagetanz 2014”. In Delicate Instruments Handled With Care she pursues her interest in transforming the monumental and iconic in embodiment and reconstruction. The performance revolves around iconic moments anchored in our collective memory: significant artworks, key moments of famous films or citations of popular events, gestures or memes. On the performers’ menu are, among others, the dead Ceausescu couple, the monolith scene from Stanley Kubrick’s A Space Odyssey, Mozartkugeln, the philosopher Slavoj Žižek, and a lot more. After the premier in March in Vienna the performance will be shown in Bucharest at the National Centre for Dance in May/June 2014.

Alexandra Pinci and Manuel Pelmus represented Romania at the 55th Venice Biennale in 2013 on the piece An Immaterial Retrospective of the Venice Biennale. Their work at the Romanian pavilion was a big success and internationally very well received.
