AT YOUR SERVICE: Discussion on labour markets and ways of social care
ERSTE Foundation, Technisches Museum Wien and DER STANDARD invite you to a discussion in German language on the wage gap and challenges in the eastern and western labor markets, with a special focus on the service sector.
“Stets zu Diensten – Die Wege der Pflege“
(Always at your service – the ways of social care)
Discussion, presented by DER STANDARD
Date: Tuesday, 23 October 2012, 7 p.m.
Location: Technisches Museum Wien, Festsaal, Mariahilfer Straße 212 1140 Wien
with Anna Jermolaewa (artist, Vienna), Sibylle Hamann (journalist and author of the book „Saubere Dienste“) and Hermine Vidovic (Economist and expert on the labour market in SEE, wiiw – The Vienna Institute for International Economic Studies).
Moderation: Irene Brickner (Der Standard)
The starting point for this talk is the video installation “Nordbahn” by Anna Jermolaewa, that was produced for the exhibition AT YOUR SERVICE – ART AND LABOUR. Jermolaewa talked to commuters about their working lives, what it’s like to commute, and their personal and family aspects. They are able to have their say in videos mounted along a locomotive of the Nordbahn, a railway that links Austria and Czech Republic. It emerges that these commuters are flexible and work in service sector jobs, often without social security in Austria and are mainly looking after people in need of care.
