Artist in Residence, June 2016: Mark Ther
Mark graduated from the Academy of Fine Arts in Prague and The Cooper Union for the Advancement of Science and Art in New York City. He has been working with photography and video/film for the last 13 years, exploring the topics such as sexuality and identity, as well as depicting moments from the central european recent history. He received the Jindrich Chalupecky Award for young visual artists in 2011.
These are his plans: “During my stay in Vienna I would like to realize a short video and a series of drawings, which will be inspired by the atmosphere and the landscape of the city. Following to my earlier practice, which are mostly improvised pieces dealing with everyday life moments, places and atmosphere of interiors as well as clubs and nature, I will use small hand sketches of emotions baselines to tell possible stories. These documentary-like sequences will be combined with parts of my already planned scripts, based on mystical stories with supernatural elements. My stay in Vienna and the realization of this project will also be a contribution to my long-term research of variations of the German language. The possibility to explore the Viennese culture and the landscape is an important part of this ongoing project line, that I will keep on developing in the future.”
