2016 Balkan Fellowship for Journalistic Excellence Kicks off in Vienna

We are happy to host the kick-off seminar of our Balkan Fellowship for Journalistic Excellence, taking place from 20 to 23 April 2016.

This year’s selected fellows are: Masenjka Bacici (Croatia), Bojan Blazhevski (Macedonia), Aleksandrina Ginkova (Bulgaria), Serbeze Haxhiaj (Kosovo), Marija Jankovic (Serbia), Adrian Lungu (Romania), Diana Mesesan (Romania), Maria Milkova (Bulgaria), Elvis Nabolli (Abania), Dimitra Triantafyllou (Greece). The fellows will receive professional guidance on research, planning, cross-border reporting and long-form journalism, as well as tailored advice on their specific reporting projects.

They will also participate in a multimedia workshop and have the chance to network with journalists and editors of the fellowship’s media partner, Der Standard. The reporters will cover issues related to this year’s theme of Trust. They will produce investigative or analytical long-form reports about trust or the lack of it in a range of spheres, from the state and its institutions, to communities and families.

The seminar will be led by the new editor of the Balkan Fellowship for Journalistic Excellence, Matt Robinson. Before joining the programme, Matt was Reuters Chief Political Correspondent for Central Europe and the Balkans. During 12 years with Reuters, Matt had postings in Pristina, Tbilisi and Belgrade and assignments across the Balkans, the Middle East and the former Soviet Union. He most recently anchored Reuters coverage of the refugee crisis in Europe.
